So glad Google added Baton Rouge and New Orleans! Seattle and Washington are way overdue.

Why Seattle and Baltimore-Washington are missing still remains a big mystery.

I was surprised DC was not included each time there was a new introduction in the Fall of 2007 and the Winter of 2008. But sooner or later, I became resigned to B-W not being included, so much that when I have made my "next" predictions, they have been out.

One theory I had was that the B-W area just has so much to cover from Pennsylvania all the way to Virginia and WV that it would take a long time to complete it. But I have dismissed that after I have seen much larger areas (such as greater LA, SF Bay area, Chicago-Milwaukee, and much of Florida covered. And while many of these places have been added in segments, B-W (and Seattle) have gotten zero.

Another was about SECURITY. Maybe the feds don't want their top secret sites, like the CIA, NSA, and Pentagon filmed. But then again, these comprise only small points within hundreds of square miles, while the remainder are mostly businesses and private homes. What's more, they have done other "questionable" places in terms of security, like San Antonio, Norfolk, even the World Trade Center site twice over. They have done high-profile bridges and national monuments. They have even done three other national capitals, two in full detail.

And EveryScape has already demonstrated that even DC's downtown area is not off-limits to panoramic filmers.

As for the "importance" theory, it could have made sense if they were just doing big metropolises like NYC and LA. But after they have finished dozens of little known places like Billings, MT, how can you say that the nation's capital and its surrounding area of 8 million is "not important?"

We all know what the WTC site looks like today. But the recent addition of The Big Easy has spoken that there is no shame in failing to wait for disaster ravaged areas to be rebuilt. B-W and Seattle have few if any.

With the only other 7-figure metro area yet to be covered being Memphis, there must be some reason Google is withholding these images from the public.

It could be something even more secretive why all points within 75 miles of the nation's capital have been snubbed. Either EveryScape got away with what the more high-profile Google was ordered not to do. Or Google is holding some places back for the longest time possible to keep anxious fans returning to their site every day. Or Sergey Brin is protective of his parents who live in the DC suburbs. Whatever it is, the real truth has never been found in any place where it has been documented to the public.

the google streetview car was actually in bismarck, ND last week. Still waiting for the images to popup on Google Maps.

I think the Seattle area is last as to give live maps a chance to at least do a street view of Redmond and the Microsoft Campus. I bet the MS campus will be the last place on earth uploaded. Maybe they are hoping that google can buy them out by the time they finish the all the street views of planet earth.

How do you know when Google will update Street View? I can't find this information anywhere else but on your blog. For example, why do you predict 9/28 as the next update instead of early September, since there have been updates in early July and August? I'm not challenging you - I sincerely would like to know.

I make my own predictions. I'm not sure if they'r correct or not until the actual release; they are just my best guesses. And sometimes they are accurate. Twice, my predictions were one day off, which is pretty good.

Anyway, the predictions are just guesses. I really don't know when exactly Google will update Street View imagery, but it's fun to guess. ;-)

STREET VIEW IN BALTIMORE???

During the past week, I have gone several times to Google Maps in Baltimore to look up various addresses, and, lo and behold, THE "STREET VIEW" TAG IS NOW VISIBLE. Clicking on it will not reveal any blue outlines, but as ghostly as this is (particularly because I was looking at Fells Point), IT IS THERE!!! The tag stayed as I panned over other parts of MD, including DC. I actually had to navigate all the way to INDIANA before the SV tag disappeared.

At the present, the closest place to Baltimore that has SV is a stretch of I-95 in Cecil County, MD, which supposedly is a part of the Philly area. This could be a sign that Google is prepping SV to come in the B-W area.

Whoa. That's freaky; it does that on my computer too. If this means Street View in Baltimore, then yay!
