Hello! This is my first post on my new blog about a really awesome feature in Google Maps. It's called Street View, and it allows anyone with Internet access to view street level images of locations all over the world. Here's how it works:
Google mounts cameras on top of cars, and then workers will drive through streets of a Google-chosen location, taking 360° street view images from public areas.
After the images are collected, they are sent to Google for editing, and the images are soon posted on Street View for the Internet population to enjoy.
Why? Well, Google believes that it will help people for many different reasons. It has helped me out in the following ways:
- To find a restaurant in a vacation area and to see what its neighborhood is like.
- To see a picture of a shop so that it will be easier to find, instead of just using its address.
- To tour the beautiful Yosemite National Park, which makes me have more reasons to go there.
- To find a hotel in a good area of town.
- To use the Street View images to model buildings for Google Earth.
- To take a virtual tour of cities, passing interesting strangers as I go along.
And there are many other reasons, but you'll have to check it out for yourself sooner or later. What are you waiting for? It's on Google Maps, just click the "Street View" button and start exploring!
