I Can't Believe it's not in Street View!

It's been a while since the last "Can or Can't" post, but after the worldwide update last week, it's time for another one!

• Adirondack Mountains - This is a huge portion of the American state of New York, and only a few major roads go through it, but there are still plenty of nice drives to take. Why not put them on Street View for the whole world to see?
• Hawai'i, United States - This has been on the CAN Believe it's not in Street View post before, but now it should be covered for a few reasons: Google can reach islands now (Sardegna, Italy; Japan; New Zealand), it's the only American land not in Street View yet, there aren't as many roads in Hawai'i as other US states, and Google already has imagery for the Canary Islands. Surely they can cover Hawai'i by now.
• Olympic National Park, Washington - Street View provides imagery for beautiful national parks all over the world, but interestingly, there is no coverage for the northwest peninsula of the state of Washington. As mentioned by a few commenters of this blog, it is a beautiful region that would look excellent in Google Maps and Earth.
• The Hague, Nederland - Only three major cities in the Netherlands have Views. The Hague is a very large city with plenty of history, and right in between Amsterdam and Rotterdam, there really shouldn't be a reason for it to be left out of the Street View feature.
• West Coast, New Zealand - New Zealand has the most complete Street View coverage of any nation in the world. But the only part that doesn't have complete coverage is the West Coast. Why?

I CAN Believe It's Not in Street View

Users all over the Internet have many good ideas for Street View coverage. Here are some ideas people have had, and possible reasons why they haven't been completed yet.

• Honolulu, Hawai'i - Sure, they've done islands like Japan and Tasmania already, but Japan is easy to get to from China, as is Tasmania from Australia. But getting to Hawai'i from anywhere is a very difficult task.
• San Juan, Puerto Rico - This one's easier to get to, but since it's still a United States territory, there might be some confusion over the privacy laws.
• Washington, District of Columbia - Security, security, security.

I Can't Believe it's not in Street View!

It's been 1 year and 150 days since the Street View feature was released in Google Maps, and we now have 90 locations all over the world, and that's only the camera icons. The number of cities/townships/villages is possibly over 1,000! Then how come there are still some locations missing?

• Memphis, Tennessee - The 18th largest city in the United States does not have Street View coverage yet? Even Fairbanks, Alaska, has imagery available.
• Baltimore, Maryland - Right after Memphis: the 19th largest city in America. Not only it is big, but it is full of history and culture. If that's not enough, Google has an office less than 40 miles away!
• Seattle, Washington - See this post. Oh yeah, and this one.

I Can't Believe it's not in Street View!

All but one of the locations in the previous I Can't Believe it's not in Street View! have been added. The only one left is Seattle, which has been included again in this list. ;-)

• Seattle, Washington - Who wasn't surprised when it didn't come out on Street View's latest update? They did 37 new cities, none including the Emerald City.
• Portland and Bangor, Maine - Maine seems to be left out of the Street View service. Why not include the state's largest city, and the city most famous for lobster fishing?
• Flagstaff, Arizona - The major city with loads of tourists on their way to the amazing Grand Canyon, the location of the discovery of the planet Pluto, and major Route 66 stop, isn't in Street View yet. It seems it wasn't close enough to Phoenix?
• Memphis, Tennessee - Not only a huge city, but the home of...the home of...the King, of course!
• Baltimore and Annapolis, Maryland - The largest city in Maryland and Maryland's capital city. Although close to Washington, shouldn't these be added soon?
• El Paso, Texas and Las Cruces, New Mexico - El Paso is a very large city, and Las Cruces is the second-largest in New Mexico, and also nearby White Sands National Monument, which would be quite a sight in Street View. However, being so close to Mexico, these cities might take a while to complete.

I CAN Believe It's Not in Street View

Vox Populi author Sam Sweeney is surprised that Detroit, MI, came before Washington, DC, in Street View. He writes a blog for the Georgetown Voice, and is disappointed that the capital of the United States has been delayed for Street View release. Washington is one city that, because of its high security, does not surprise. Here is a list of other cities that obviously will be delayed for a while:

• Grand Canyon, Arizona - Although it's a wonderful national park, there are very few roads that show the main wonder, the Grand Canyon itself. Most roads in the area would show mostly forest after forest after forest, and they aren't as tall as Yosemite's.
• New Orleans, Louisiana - Although a large city, because of the damage from global warming and/or Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma, it wouldn't be too entertaining right now, and Google might be considered inconsiderate if they did release New Orleans.
• Washington, District of Columbia - Security, security, security.

I Can't Believe it's not in Street View!

• Seattle, Washington - Yes, it's Microsoft City, but with Seattle's unique culture and architecture, who wouldn't want to tour it?
• Atlanta, Georgia - This capital of Georgia is one of the largest cities in the South, and home to numerous stadiums and arenas.
• St Louis, Missouri - A possible reason for the delay in St Louis's Street View is the high crime rate there, where people would possibly find amusing images. However, downtown is definitely a sight to see, with its hotels, courthouses, and the famous Gateway Arch.
• Cincinnati, Ohio - Rich history and rich neighborhoods. We've also been dying to drive over all those amazing bridges!
• Sacramento, California - It's the capital of California, and would complete the Street View collection of California large cities, along with Fresno.
• Oklahoma City & Tulsa, Oklahoma - When Oklahoma City is shown on Street View, Tulsa will most likely be included, since the same thing was done with other central-state cities like Indianapolis and Albuquerque. Oklahoma City and Tulsa have nice quaint downtown centers, and the real estate would be nice to see online.
