According to Reuters, an educated Japanese group, the Campaign Against Surveillance Society, wants all of Google's Japanese Street View imagery to be completely removed.
Their reasoning, said by Yasuhiko Tajima:
We strongly suspect that what Google has been doing deeply violates a basic right that humans have.
In other words:
We [believe] that [taking pictures] deeply violates [our privacy].

It's not as simple as telling them not to worry. They are aware of the steps Google is taking or plans to take and yet they don't like Street View anyway.
What I'd like to know is: what are they doing about Location View, a Japanese company that provides a similar service as Street View? www.locaview.com has street level imagery, just like Google's, and they launched Japanese photos in 2006 and 2007. There are images of people and of homes, and I'll betcha dollars to donuts no one gave permission. I don't believe for a minute that this group of highly educated people is unaware of Location View.
